I’ve been slacking on my blog lately.. I have been so busy so I wanted to give you some updates..
Over the past few months, I have been *tirelessly* planning my first ever Suicide Prevention Fundraiser. For those who haven’t read my my suicide loss story , I lost my younger brother to suicide on July 31, 2017. It changed our lives and world forever. There is not a day where we don’t miss Seth and wish that he was still with us. Our family has been so fortunate for the help and support that we received from NAMI NH. For those of you who are not familiar with this organization, NAMI (The National Alliance on Mental Illness) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization. They are dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans impacted by mental illness. Through NAMI, we have found the strength and hope that we needed.
Last year, we participated in their annual 5K to Raise Money and End the Stigma surrounding Mental Illness and Suicide Prevention. This year, I decided to try and take it one step further and gather people in the community for an afternoon of fun, advocacy, learning and fundraising!
It looks MONTHS of planning and reaching out to people to plan this fundraiser. All while dealing with the fears and anxiety that it would fail and I would be embarrassed. The event happened on Saturday September 8th and IT WAS AMAZING!
I felt fortunate for all the help and support I received from friends, family and the community with my first Suicide Prevention Fundraiser. We were able to raise a significant amount of money which I will be able to donate to NAMI NH.
For anyone who may be interested, our online donor drive is still open for donations to be made with a credit/debit card. You can read more about my story and make a donation by clicking here.
On top of planning and hosting this fundraiser, I have started school again! The first week is down. I see that it will be challenging to complete a Bachelors program online on top of working full-time, but I am so excited for the courses I am taking and where it may be able to push me to!
Life has been a crazy whirlwind lately. I am trying to make sure that I put my mental heath first, but sometimes I need to force myself to slow down to be able to do this.
Thank you all for your love and support!
